On March 19, 2023, the Hiroshima Association of Architects and Building Engineers held a lecture in Hiroshima City.
Prof. Watanabe introduced six "Seed sowers" who have influenced people and society in their own time and in later generations, and presented how we aim to create "Unity Architecture" by passing on these seeds. gave a presentation on the "seeds" that have been sown.

2023年3月19日、広島市にて広島県建築士会まちづくり委員会主催の講演会を行いました。
それぞれが生きた時代、そして後世の人・社会に影響を与えてきた、6人の”種を蒔く人”を紹介し、 それらの種を受け継ぎながら、“ひとつなぎの建築”をどう目指しているのか、をみなさまに聞いていただきました。

This lecture was made possible with the cooperation of Mr. Tsukada, a member of the Etajima City Community Development Cooperation Team, who moderated the session.
Many people attended the event, including Mr. Takashi Hiraoka, the former mayor of Hiroshima City,
those who currently manage and operate Hiroshima House, local general contractors, and those who are not usually involved in the building industry.
司会の塚田さん（江田島市地域おこし協力隊）にご協力いただいて実現したこの講演会には、“種を蒔く人”の1人として紹介した元広島市長の平岡敬さんをはじめ、
現在ひろしまハウスを管理運営している方、地元のゼネコンの方、普段は建築にはあまり関わりのない方など、多くの方々がご参加してくださりました。
All of the models displayed in front of the venue were of projects we are planning to develop in Etajima and Hiroshima in the future,
and we shared our thoughts on four projects, including a proposal we made with Etajima residents at a workshop we held in Etajima in November.
We received feedback on these projects after the lecture and hope to continue working with you to create the future of Etajima and Hiroshima.

11月に江田島で行ったワークショップで、江田島在住の方々と共に作り上げた提案を含め、4つのプロジェクトについて、私たちの考えを共有させていただきました。

江田島ワークショップ

On Sunday 2022-11-27, we held a workshop in the city hall of Etajima in Hiroshima Prefecture.
This time, we discussed a project proposal for a former spinning mill site along the southeastern coast of Etajima.
As the design unites various functions such as a memorial park, an emergency shelter,
a commercial area and open spaces for the civil society,
the workshops intention was to focus on the needs the local residents and discuss the upcoming challenges of Etajima.
2022年11月27日（日）、広島県江田島市の市役所にてワークショップを開催しました。
今回は、江田島の南東海岸沿いにある紡績工場跡地のプロジェクト案について議論しました。
メモリアルパーク、緊急避難所、
商業施設、市民のためのオープンスペースなど、さまざまな機能が一体となったデザインであることから、
ワークショップでは地域住民のニーズに焦点を当て、江田島の今後の課題を議論することを意図しました。
The approximately 20 various Etajima citizens participated,
including local olive and other farmers, construction companies, bamboo charcoal industry workers,
school principals, and housewives.
Trough the workshop we were able to identify three main challenges of Etajima.
First, the aging population, secondly the lack of public transportation/ infrastructure and thirdly the children’s education.
地元のオリーブをはじめとした農園や建設会社、竹炭産業を営む方々、
学校の校長先生や主婦の方々など約20名の様々な江田島市民の方々に参加していただきました。
ワークショップを通じて、江田島の3つの主要な課題を明らかにすることができました。
第一に人口の高齢化、第二に公共交通機関やインフラの不足、第三に子供の教育についてです。
It was clear to the participants that local and sustainable tourism should be promoted to bring money into the Etajima and create new job opportunities.
By that it would be possible to offer a younger generation to stay in Etajima and work in tourism related jobs.
The site, a former spinning mill, is sandwiched between beautiful mountains and a wonderful ocean,
and has great potential to overlap with the natural blessings of Etajima.
Various discussions were held on tourism to take advantage of this potential,
concluding that cycling or water-related sport has big potential in the area.
私たちは江田島にお金をもたらし、新たな雇用機会を創出するために、地元で持続可能な観光を促進する必要があることを共有しました。
持続可能な観光を促進することで、若い世代が江田島に滞在し、観光関連の仕事に従事することが可能になります。
敷地である紡績工場跡地は、美しい山と素晴らしい海に挟まれており、江田島の自然の恵みが重なる大きなポテンシャルを持っています。
このポテンシャルを生かした観光について、様々な議論がなされ、サイクリングや水上スポーツが大きな可能性を持っているのではないかという意見にまとまりました。
Additionally, many residents raised the issue of a lack of a local place for selling and buying local agricultural products, seafood.
Therefore, it is was expressed that a local market should be built on the site,
to strengthen the community and provide a place of exchange and local identity for both, residents and visitors.
また、地元の農産物や魚介類などの売り買いができる場所がないとの声も多く聞かれました。
そこで、江田島市民と観光客の双方にとって、地域コミュニティの強化、交流の場、地域のアイデンティティを提供するために、
この地に市場が作られるべきだという意見が出されました。
Discussions were also held regarding the creation of an enjoyable place to live, with children's education as its foundation,
in order to resolve the declining birthrate and aging population.
Rather than a conventional school facility that simply teaches study,
the participants sought an educational facility unique to Etajima that would take advantage of the leisure activities of the sea and mountains,
and allow for social activities with people of various generations and professions.
The common goal was to make the island attractive enough for children to return to Etajima
in the future as adults to live there after having experienced the unique experiences of Etajima.
少子高齢化を解決すべく、子供の教育を根幹とした楽しい居場所づくりに関する議論もなされました。
単に勉強を教える従来の学校施設ではなく、海と山のレジャーを活かしたり、様々な世代や職業の方々と一緒に社会的な活動を行えたりと、
江田島ならではの教育施設の姿が模索されました。
そこには、江田島ならではの経験を経た子供たちが、将来大人になって再び江田島に戻って生活ができるために魅力的な島にしようという共通の目的がありました。
To conclude is can be said that the workshop was a first step of a dialogue with Etajima’s residents to develop a future- orientated and resilient community.
The residents and the Watanabe Lab expressed their gratitude to hold/ participate in this workshop.
このワークショップは江田島市民の方々との対話を通じて、未来志向のレジリエントな地域づくりを目指す第一歩となったと言えるでしょう。
